They vary depending where you are, but the draft of the boat is 1.4 meters, or around 5.5 feet, and the river has risen 5 feet since we departed 2 weeks ago. The rivers will rise another 30-40 feet before they reach their peak height.

A fish called the arapijema can get up to 800 lbs and 15 feet in length, and the snakes like the Anaconda can get up to 35 feet in length.

Most of the indigenous people drink from the river. There are streams flowing into the Rio Negro that have clean drinkable water and many people catch the rainfall for drinking water. It rains every day.

Everyone seems very happy and content. All they know is the rainforest. There is plenty of food and everyone is very relaxed and fit and healthy. Many of the villages rely on fishing.

The Amazon is very unique. I have spent some time in Africa but nothing compares to the Amazon. I always wish to learn about new places, wildlife, culture and history. The Amazon has always been a place on my bucket list and it is truly amazing.

Traveling with Doug is fun, it is great to travel with someone who has knowledge about the areas we travel to. My favorite thing about the Amazon is probably experiencing a different culture. Trying new foods, hearing different music. Seeing how different life here in the Amazon is, comparing to the USA.

We have been eating a lot of fish and chicken that we have caught in the river. The local people give us fruits and vegetables to cook and eat. It has been very sustainable and healthy except the chocolate cake.

The spiders can get bigger than a hand, and yes - there are many poisonous spiders here in the Amazon. We have seen a few that our guide has told us to stay away from but I think they all look the same.

The boat has a pretty big gas tank but we were able to fill up in Barcelos at a floating gas station. I think the MV Dorinha can go around 800 miles on a full tank

I think our bodies are quite resilient. We are able to adapt to certain environments. It usually takes a couple days but the amazon is very hot - 85 degrees and 85% humidity. We spend a lot of time in the river.

The river is about 4000 miles long with a hundred tributaries that run over 1000 miles long.

We saw a boa constrictor that was over 15 feet long and a couple of caiman. But I do not think anyone is scared of the animals the we see.

In Manaus, the city is very littered, trash everywhere. From what I've seen, though, they are better with eco-friendly transportation than the United States is. Mostly everyone there drives small cars and trucks or motorcycles. Also along the river we sometimes see plastic bags and bottles and cans in the river. I don't think the indigenous people of the Rio Negro understand all of the effects littering can cause to the river, as well a the plants and animals native to the river. It might help to educate these people about the consequences of polluting this amazing area.
